Data-Driven Learning Community
We Learn and Share to Improve Together
We bring together our worldwide network because we know that broad and diverse participation is the only way to accelerate improvement and make lasting positive changes to care practices and outcomes.
Databases and Reporting
Very Low Birth Weight Database: Birth weight less than or equal to 1500 grams or gestational age less than or equal to 29 weeks.
Expanded Database: All infants admitted to a NICU within 28 days of birth.
Extremely Low Birth Weight Follow-Up: Health and neurological development for infants <1000 grams or <28 weeks gestational age at birth.
Global Health Neonatal Quality Improvement Database: All neonatal unit admissions in resource-limited settings.
VON Commons
In VON Commons, we’re harnessing the vast human resources of the tens of thousands of people across all disciplines caring for infants and families who are members in the VON worldwide improvement community.
You can connect online with other centers on VON Commons to share advice, policies and practices, and ask whatever questions you have related to our common goal of using data to inform improvements in care.
Project Warm Welcome
About 20% of infants enter the NICU outside the normal temperature range each year. This seemingly simple issue can lead to complications like respiratory distress, hypoxia, hypoglycemia, and other conditions that require costly and time-intensive treatment.
The power of people at more than 1,200 centers in VON working together can make an impact at scale to improve rates of infants admitted to the NICU in the normal temperature range.
All VON members will have access to:
- regular webinars,
- an interactive driver diagram of evidence-based practices,
- guidance on effective quality improvement processes,
- and measurement of relevant unit-level practices.
Quality Improvement Foundations
This course is designed to build a shared understanding of effective QI for all health care professionals and parent partners involved in newborn care.
The curriculum uses a sequence to achieve change, developed over 25 years of effective quality collaborative programs, to guide learners through an effective QI education journey with links to many key resources.
3.5 CME/CNE for unlimited staff at participating centers.
Health Equity and Follow Through
“Follow through” is a comprehensive approach that begins before birth and continues into childhood involving health professionals, families, and communities as partners to meet the social as well as medical needs of infants and families.
VON provides educational videos and resources to help teams implement equity-focused practices and follow through for all infants and families.
All VON Libraries
Our libraries provide evidence, improvement stories, educational videos, and data analysis to support improving care for infants and families.
Countless VON members and faculty have contributed to creating these resources and we continue to add to these libraries as more resources are developed through VON member programs.
